There’s just something about a Kansas sky.
I’ve lived in Hugoton, Southwest Kansas my entire life, and the fields and skies have always been a part of me. Every season, I find myself watching the wheat change. It starts as soft green, moving with the wind, and slowly turns into that rich golden yellow by summer. It never gets old.
But the skies… those are my favorite. No two are ever the same. They’re always shifting—colors moving, light changing, something new happening every time you look up.
As an artist, I notice those moments. It almost feels like the color is dancing between the fields and the sky, changing right in front of me. That’s what I wanted to hold onto in this piece. Not just what it looks like, but what it feels like to stand out there with nothing around you but land and sky.
I’m always drawn to that contrast. The fields feel calm and steady, but the sky has all the energy. That’s where I let myself go a little more—thicker paint, bigger movement, not worrying about it being perfect. I just want it to feel real.
I know not everyone can take home an original, and that’s okay. That’s why I offer prints. I still want people to be able to bring that feeling into their space—the color, the movement, the quiet but also the energy.
If this one speaks to you, it probably reminds you of a place you’ve been… or maybe just a feeling you recognize.
If this one speaks to you, you can find it available as a print in my shop.
