Stepping Out of Neutral: My Kitchen Color Story

Stepping Out of Neutral: My Kitchen Color Story

Oh man… I really stepped out of my neutral color palette with my kitchen.

For years, I’ve kept things pretty safe in my home. Neutrals felt easy. They worked. But they never really felt like me.

My kitchen cabinets are painted a light slate blue, and I truly love that color. It feels calm and soft, but still has personality. The challenge came when I tried to figure out what to do with the walls.

I went back and forth more than I’d like to admit.

Nothing felt quite right… until I realized I kept coming back to the same thought—I kept seeing green.

Not a soft green. Not a muted green. A bold, confident green.

So I went for it.

I chose a Kelly green paint color, and I’ll be honest, it felt like a big step. But once it went on the wall, everything started to come together in a way I didn’t expect.

The blue cabinets and green walls play off each other in such a fun, lively way. It feels fresh, full of energy, and honestly… more like me than anything I’ve done in my home before.

As an artist, I work with color all the time. But bringing that same boldness into my home has taken me a little longer. This kitchen feels like a turning point.

It reminded me that sometimes the colors you’re drawn to are there for a reason—you just have to trust it.

This space is far from finished, but it finally feels like it’s heading in the right direction.

And I’m excited to keep going.
